Trombone
Trombonist Joe Beaty began playing professionally in his home state of Texas at the age of 14. His early talent earned him a full high-school scholarship to the world-renowned Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. He continued his education at the New School University for Jazz and Contemporary Studies, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance, and later received his Master’s Degree in Music and Composition from New York University—where he also became one of the youngest trombone faculty members in the program’s history.
Throughout his development, Joe studied with an extraordinary lineage of artists and educators whose influence helped shape his musical identity, including Conrad Herwig, Wycliffe Gordon, Robin Eubanks, Josh Roseman, Ray Anderson, John Allred, Chris Washburne, Sam Burtis, Ron Wilkins, Tom Riccobono, and Lewis Kahn.
Joe has performed with many celebrated artists including Jason Lindner, Chick Corea, Richard Bona, Jean-Michel Pilc, Ari Hoenig, Junior Mance, Jeff Tain Watts, and Joe Lovano, with touring credits across Japan, Europe, Brazil, and Poland. He has appeared on television at the Latin Grammy Awards and performed at premier venues such as Blue Note, Birdland, Iridium, Smalls, Jazz Standard, Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall, and has recorded with Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz, MK Groove Orchestra, Maxwell, and others.
A constant voice in the NYC gospel scene, Joe has spent the past decade as part of the music ministry at St. Luke Baptist Church in Harlem. His Japanese pop big-band project Morning Musuko won MTV Iggy Artist of the Week in 2011, and he recently recorded with Grammy-winning organist Cory Henry.
Joe is also a proud B.A.C. trombone artist.
