Happy Birthday Les Paul

He changed music with his inventions and performances.

Although widely associated with developing the solid body electric guitar that bears his name, Les Paul’s  numerous recording inventions and  innovations also changed modern music.

Les Paul popularized the use of echo, reverb, phase shifting, close miking, delay and slap back with the introduction of his “New Sound” in 1948. On the hardware side, Les introduced sound on sound first using discs, followed by tape and eventually to his professional 8-track tape recorder that changed the recording industry forever.

Today’s recording artists use Capitol Records’ echo chambers that Les designed in the 1950s.
