Litchfield Jazz Camp Urges Families to Apply for Scholarships – Funding Available Now!

For three decades, the world-renowned Litchfield Jazz Camp has been committed to making top-tier jazz education accessible to all motivated teens—regardless of their financial situation. Each year since its founding, the camp has provided between $70,000 and $100,000 in need-based scholarships.

But so far this year, fewer families have applied for financial aid than they did last year. Vita Muir, Founder and Director of Litchfield Jazz Camp, believes she knows why.

“Some parents assume they won’t qualify and never apply,” Muir explains. “They see their middle-class income—maybe $80,000 to $100,000 —and think that’s too high for us to qualify for aid.  But in today’s economy, with prices for rent, groceries, gasoline and just about everything else soaring, many families need support to make a program like this possible for their children.”

Muir emphasizes that scholarships aren’t just for families in the lowest income bracket. “Most requests for aid come from middle-class households. The camp offers both partial and full scholarships to ensure no aspiring, young musician misses out due to cost,” Muir said. The Board of Directors of Litchfield Performing Arts, the camp’s parent, has been very diligent and very generous in scholarship fundraising for this summer. Parents should be optimistic about their success in seeking aid: Litchfield Jazz Camp has never, in its 30 years, turned down a qualified request for support.
