Learn more about Litchfield Jazz Camp’s summer home, The Frederick Gunn School
The Frederick Gunn School, founded in 1850, is a co-ed boarding and day school for 325 students in grades 9-12 as well as a post-graduate year. Located in Washington, Connecticut, the school’s 220-acre campus has served as the summer home of Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2018. The school’s founder and namesake, Frederick Gunn, was a pioneering educator, courageous abolitionist, and rugged outdoorsman. He inspired generations of students to be curious and thoughtful, to be active members of their communities, and to stand up for what they believe in. He was a transformational leader. Gunn students become principled, active citizens and lifelong learners who will be entrepreneurial forces for good in the world.
The Thomas S. Perakos Arts & Community Center
The Thomas S. Perakos Arts and Community Center opened in 2020 as an inspiring center for artists on the campus of The Frederick Gunn School. This 32,000-square-foot building offers state-of-the-art facilities and is the home of the 415-seat Tisch Family Auditorium. Designed as a concert venue, the auditorium offers premium acoustics and unobstructed views of the stage throughout. The Litchfield Jazz Camp enjoys usage of the entire building in July, with dedicated spaces for combo, band, and vocal performance classes along with performances, including the Jazz After Work faculty-and-student concerts, which are open to the public and live-streamed free of charge. Each summer, the camp concludes with the Litchfield Jazz Festival, which has been hosted at Gunn since 2019 and features performers from around the world.
