Picture features Nicki Parrott with Les Paul at New York’s Iridium where she played in his Trio for 10 years.
Thanks to support from the ever-generous Les Paul Foundation, Nicki Parrott, world-renowned bassist/vocalist, will appear at Litchfield Jazz Camp on July 18. She will host a presentation on the life, music, and innovations of Les Paul. Paul, who died in 2009 at age 94, was a songwriter, luthier, and inventor and a pioneer of the solid-body electric guitar. Self-taught on guitar, he is responsible for many recording innovations such as overdubbing, delay effects and multitrack recording.
His performance career with his wife Mary Ford in the 1950s included record sales in the millions with mega-hits like The World is Waiting for the Sunrise, Tennessee Waltz, Mockin’ Bird Hill, and How High the Moon. Les Paul is the only person to be included in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the National Inventors Hall of Fame. For the past several years the Les Paul Foundation has sponsored scholarships for Litchfield Jazz Camp students. Nicki has made this visit to Litchfield Jazz Camp every summer for the past six years thanks to the Foundation.
Nicki Parrott will visit camp combos during the day and do a presentation for students and the public beginning at 3PM and wrapping up at 4:15 with a performance with Litchfield Jazz Camp Faculty members at The Emerson Performing Arts Center at the Gunnery, Washington, CT. Jazz Camp students and members of the public are all invited. There is no fee for participation.
